Day 2 - Saturday
After breakfast, private transfer with your guide from hotel to Alba, for a nice stroll in this enchanting town considered the capital of the UNESCO Human Heritage hilly area of Langhe. Famous for its white truffle, peach and wine production, Alba still retains parts of the Roman fortified gate and remains of some edifices with marble and mosaics as well as beautiful Romanesque and Gothic churches. You will then reach Grinzane Cavour where you will visit the impressive medieval castle, one of the symbols of the Langhe hills. Here, the exclusive “World Alba White Truffle Charity Auction” takes place every year in November. The castle is also the location of the region’s most important winery, “Enoteca Regionale Piemontese Cavour”.
After that, you will enjoy a visit to Fontanafredda estate and winery, one of most renowned in Piedmont, first established in the 19th century by the former king of Italy, and recently nominated “European Winery of the Year” by the prestigious American magazine Wine Enthusiast.
It will be a surprising journey through the majestic cellars considered among the 100 most beautiful in the world, among large oak barrels, barriques and concrete vats, still used today for the great red wines of the Langhe, particularly Barolo (known as the “King of wines and the wine of Kings”).
The visit will end with an amazing tasting of the excellent estate wines and lunch at the estate restaurant (lunch NOT included).
In the afternoon, the tour continues to Canelli, where you will visit the so called “Underground Cathedrals”, designated UNESCO World Heritage Site. Built in the late 18th century, initially intended as small cellars to conserve wine, the historical wine cellars extend under the hill of Canelli for a total of 5 thousand sqm and a depth that reaches 40 meters. Beyond their natural beauty, the cellars exploit the characteristics of the calcareous tuff rock that creates the perfect thermal isolation and ideal conditions for vinification and aging process.
At the end, enjoy a Michelin starred dinner at San Marco restaurant in Canelli (dinner NOT included).
After dinner, private transfer back to the hotel.
